Getting-An-Artificial-Tan

By: Kay Brown

Tanning booths have become the number one way for people to keep that year round tanned look. However new technology has come to the rescue to an industry that is having problems, owing to the rise in cases of skin cancer, with some newer techniques that pose less danger.

Across America (and other countries) there has been in increase in artificial techniques with spray tanning high up on that list. There are other agents available to help produce an artificial tan but they do not always work that well unless they are applied by someone with experience.

Just to provide an even more convenient service, manufacturers have introduced spray tanning equipment that can be used in the home. Whatever type of fake tan you intend to use as a regular method, there are a number of things that can help to make it last longer and improve the look.

Exfoliation is the first step as this rids the body surface of the dead skin cells. What you don't want is for people to recognize your tan is a fake by noticing paler patches of skin where the dead skin cells have dropped from your body.

Once this process is complete, it is advisable to prepare your skin further by applying a moisturizing cream (or lotion) to it which will make the agent easier to apply. One of the biggest mistakes people make at this stage when applying a bronzer from a bottle or cream application is to forget to wear gloves, this leaves them with orange palms which is hard to disguise.

All your joints i.e. knuckles, elbows, knees and ankles will need to be given a lighter coat as these areas will appear much darker and everyone will know what you have been doing! The only possible problem that can occur when spray tanning is used is some streaking caused by excess fluid, so an old towel you no longer need should be used to remove it.

Once the tanning agent (whatever type you have used) has been applied you will need to have somewhere to relax and not move while the coating dries or small smear marks might occur. These agents are notoriously good at marking clothing once they have been applied so you are advised to be careful how soon you get ready afterwards and what you intend to wear.

Obviously darker clothing is the best option so the staining will not be as visible, and if possible, something that you will not worry about if it gets damaged. Applying an artificial tan successfully means there are a few rules to follow which should ensure it looks as genuine as possible.
