Boosting-Your-Self-Esteem

By: Pam Burnett..

Most people may not be aware of it but low self-esteem could be one of the reasons, if not the sole reason, why they are unhappy with their lives. It is very easy to overlook the important role self-esteem plays in a person's everyday dealings. On the other hand, there are those people who are acutely aware of other people's accomplishments that they end up feeling miserable for what they think as their "inabilities."

Once we acquire a healthy sense of understanding of ourselves and our capabilities life will surely be more enjoyable for us. We must always remember that a positive attitude can be passed on to others to create a happier environment. Some tips are enumerated below on how to better improve your self-esteem:

* Exercise - Exercising is a good way to release stress and build up the needed energy for the day ahead. A daily dose of exercise does not only leave us healthier and stronger but also improves our sense of well-being. Stress hormones that have accumulated in our bodies are broken down by the physical activity that we do. This, in turn, increases endorphins or the hormones responsible for increasing our energy level.

* Acknowledge a compliment that was thrown your way - For once in your life acknowledge compliments people give you. A simple smile will do or a "thank you." People who are unsure of themselves would not say anything at all instead they will ignore the compliment.

* Learn to let go of the past - Letting go of bad memories is one sure way of increasing your self-esteem. If you continue to be encumbered by bad thought and idea, it will surely come out in your outlook. When you do something which did not come out as expected, do not dwell on it instead go on with your life with the past merely serving as a lesson. With this attitude of ours, it is no wonder other people may be more forgiving of our misdeeds than our own selves.

* Treat yourself - Never forget to treat yourself for all the troubles you have been through. And even though there really is no cause to celebrate, why don't you take a break for a while and simply enjoy the moment? It is never a bad idea to treat your self once in a while. These activities could be as simple as eating out with friends and family, going to the spa, or participating in a sporting activity you have long wanted to take part in.

* Take stock of your strengths - If you are undergoing a really stressful and depressing time, always try to look for something good in yourself and you will surely find that there is one, two, or even more good qualities you will find in yourself that will help you get through this depression phase.

* Be a constructive force - Constructive force means being able to accomplish new things every day. Doing something which we may not have tried in the past is a good way to start us on the road to constructive endeavors. Being stagnant will lead us nowhere and pull us down.

* Try doing meditations - Meditating, whether we are highly stressed individuals or not, is one activity which will open us to more positive energy and a healthier self-esteem.

* Take enough sleep - A good night's sleep is the best way to energize you for the day ahead. Get as much sleep as your body needs because it not only rests your body but your mind as well. A well-rested person exudes energy which boost his/her self-esteem.
